Shows (grades 4 - 12)

Professionally directed, just for students.

Traveling Players always offers expert training in acting, character creation, physical comedy, stage combat, improvisation, and text analysis. We value the spirit of the ensemble. Our ensemble and team-building activities create a strong, supportive cast and friendships that will last a lifetime.

Our rehearsals will prepare students well, with analysis of contemporary and classical language, acting exercises, movement workshops and improvisational games that explore the world of the play. The class is appropriate for experienced actors as well as eager and committed newbies.

As a parent, it has been such a thrill over the years to see all of these positive developments in my daughter and to have found such a unique and innovative program where she has received intensive and constructive theater training in an environment that takes the participants seriously, wants them to improve and strengthen their skills, but also wants them to have fun!

PLAYERS & THESPIANS
AUDITION

Treasure Island

Adapted by Todd Espeland from Robert Louis Stevenson

Audition for a daring adventure -  Treasure IslandThis stage adaptation of the classic novel brings to life dreamers, scoundrels, and thieves. Jim Hawkins sails for treasure with nothing more than an old map from Billie Bones, and the dying sailor's ominous warning: "You be keepin' this safe, lad. They be wantin' what belonged to Old Flint..." He enlists the help of Dr. Livesey and his foolish squire to secure a crew. Once aboard he begins to form a friendship with Long John Silver, the cook. Then, one fateful night, Jim discovers the awful truth - the whole crew, including Silver, are pirates who once sailed under Captain Flint! They plan to mutiny and take the treasure for themselves, killing every non-pirate aboard. This adaptation is brimming with sword fights, no-good pirates, hidden identities, and more than a little swashbuckling.

AUDITION

Orlando

Adapted by Sarah Ruhl from Virginia Woolf

Audition for a lyrical adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s fantastical masterpiece, Orlando! A three-hundred-year epic in which a young nobleman in Queen Elizabeth’s court journeys through time and becomes a woman in the bustling atmosphere of 20th-century London. Falling in and out of love on his/her adventures and struggling to write a poem about an oak tree, this adaptation is sustained by a chorus of actors who must inhabit different characters throughout the centuries. Sarah Ruhl (by way of Woolf) creates a mesmerizing theatrical experience that tackles the ways in which gender has conformed us, and the ways in which art will set us free.

Attendance Policy

We ask that students have no more than 1 (one) conflict during the rehearsal process. As we are an ensemble theatre company, we limit our cast sizes and maximize each actor's time on stage. This allows our actors lots of opportunities to learn and perform, but it means that it can be very difficult to rehearse when an actor is out.

If your student would exceed this limit, please email Emma Mearns to see if exceptions can be made.

Once you have completed your conflict form (sent upon audition registration), adding and/or changing conflicts is not permitted (barring illness/family emergencies).

Conflicts during tech and/or shows are not permitted.

Discounts

Early Bird (Actors): $200 if you audition & enroll before Dec 27

Early Bird (Technicians): $150 if you interview & enroll before Dec 27

Need-based Financial Aid is available for all programs. Please contact Emma Mearns at programassistant@travelingplayers.org or more information.
