Dear Traveling Players Community,
I wanted to write to you to share some incredibly exciting news: Traveling Players has a new summer home! I am delighted to report that, starting this coming summer, Traveling Players’ sleepaway programs will be in residence at Christchurch Boarding School, a co-ed private boarding and day school located on the Rappahannock River in Virginia's Northern Neck.
Their scenic, 125-acre waterfront campus is the ideal location for us to make great theatre in the great outdoors. In addition to our traditional summer activities, we’ll have the use of their private dock and beach, with opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, and swimming.
At the same time, the school’s setting will allow us to offer a comprehensive pre-college theatre experience within the safety of a secluded boarding school. Your campers will live in a dormitory residence, with locally sourced and balanced meals provided by SAGE - a premier dining service for independent schools and colleges. Rehearsals will take place both in the beautiful outdoors and – when necessary – in air-conditioned theatres and classrooms. Our tech theatre students will be able to use the school’s Maker's Space, which includes access to a 3-D printer!
Everything else you know and love about Traveling Players will stay the same. We’ll continue to provide a world-class theatre camp experience, including our nationally renowned Shakespeare Troupe touring production. More importantly, your children will once again have the opportunity to develop their social skills, learn self-expression, and practice self-reliance in a safe space where they can be themselves. We’re honored that you trust us with your kids and proud that we can provide them with an incredible experience within a welcoming and inclusive community.
We’re sure you have lots of questions about this exciting change. We invite you to join us this Friday, November 15 at 7 pm in our Tysons Corner Center Studio for our Summer Launch Party and Open House. I will be joined by our talented team of summer directors – Ryan Fields, Morgan Shotwell, and Emma Mearns – to answer questions from parents and students alike. We also will welcome Wes Charlton, a Christchurch alumnus and current faculty member who is serving as our liaison with the school.
I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I am to share this news. We believe we have found in Christchurch a partner that shares our vision and our values.
Warmly,
Jeanne E. Harrison
