For the student just getting to know us, or who can’t commit the whole weekend, this class allows young actors to participate our popular The Play’s the Thing class to perform Charlie & the Chocolate Factory without committing to three months of full-weekend rehearsals.

You’ll join the play as an ensemble member.  You won’t get one of the leads, since you won’t be at all the rehearsals, but Traveling Players’ emphasis on ensemble means that you’ll be a fully-integrated member of the cast with lots to do, and you’ll get to rock the stage in four public performances at Tysons Corner Center. The play will be professionally directed and fully produced, with costumes, sets, and props.

6th graders can sign up to be either a Player (Saturdays only) or a Thespian (Saturdays & Sundays).

These dedicated performers rehearse Saturdays & Sundays — tackling the bulk of the storytelling and larger roles in the play! Perform Roald Dahl’s classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as a play adapted by Richard George

Students will learn acting techniques, physical theatre, and technical theatre as they make the magic of this play happen.  This class is ideal for experienced actors, as well as eager and committed newbies.

This winter, Traveling Players presents Charlie and the Chocolate Factory — not the musical, but the play! Charlie Bucket loves chocolate. Mr. Willy Wonka, the most wondrous inventor in the world, is opening the gates of his amazing chocolate factory to five lucky children with golden tickets.  And Charlie got the last golden ticket! But what he finds inside the factory is beyond even his wildest dreams…

Our rehearsals will include text analysis, acting exercises, movement workshops and improvisational games that explore the world of the play. The class is appropriate for experienced actors as well as eager and committed newbies.

The Play’s the Thing requires an audition to enroll, for both Players and Thespians.

There’s no need to prepare anything in advance! We’ll be having you read off excerpts from the script, and playing some fun improvisation games.

There’s a $20 fee for the audition.

No need to stress out about the audition! We recognize that many of our young actors are undertaking the first audition of their lives at Traveling Players.

We create a playful and supportive environment where returning Traveling Players can reconnect with friends and newcomers can be welcomed to our community. Over the course of the audition, you will read from the script as well as take part in improvisations and discussions.  Our community develops acting skills in an environment noted for its commitment, creativity and kindness.

We’ve been told that Traveling Players auditions are the most fun auditions our kids have ever attended. We intend to keep it that way.

Traveling Players summer camps and classes always offer expert training in acting, character creation, physical comedy, stage combat, improvisation, and text analysis. We also value the spirit of the ensemble. Our ensemble and team-building activities create a strong, supportive cast and friendships that will last a lifetime.
Our kids have taken classes year round. We have not found a better acting program. Our kids have built lasting friendships with the staff and fellow campers.
