Join Team Comedy!

Reintroducing our newest programs:
Comedy Ensemble (grades 6-8) and Comedy Intensive (grades 8-12)

This summer, become part of a tight-knit ensemble where you can stretch your imagination and grow your skills. Improvisation is the most important tool in the actor’s toolbox—and the best part is that you’re only doing it right if you’re having fun! Learn foundational skills for theater (and life): clarity of thought and action, mental agility, spontaneity, active listening & responding, leading & following, and creative problem solving.

Who will love it on team comedy?
Middle or High School actors who...
  • Are natural-born storytellers
  • Bring high energy to theatre
  • Have a quirky perspective
  • Can provide calm in the chaos by playing the “straight man”
  • Are ready to burst! out! into! song!
  • Want to learn slapstick, stand-up, and the art of hamming it up
Daily rehearsals progress from bonding the ensemble to theatre games to longer improvisations and group storytelling. At the end of your adventure, your ensemble will use suggestions from a live audience to create an original show and make theatrical magic on the spot.

You'll perform an improvised masterpiece – never seen before or again!

Meet Your Director:
Joe Godburn

We're thrilled to announce that Joe Godburn is returning for his fifth summer at Traveling Players!

An experienced educator, Joe has spent 15 years sharing his love for theater with Missoula Children’s Theater, including their coveted international tours. During Missoula’s tight rehearsal schedules, he taught students how to use improvisational skills to enrich their performances and acting choices.

As our resident Improv Guru, Joe shared his educational expertise in 2018 with The Center for Inspired Teaching (DC) through a master class for schoolteachers on the power of improvisation in the classroom to capture students’ curiosity and heighten their engagement.

In prior summers at Traveling Players, Joe has taught our improvisation classes and directed plays with middle and high schoolers: A Commedia Cinderella (with our Commedia Troupe, developed through improv), Molière’s The Imaginary Invalid and The Bourgeois Gentleman, Gozzi’s Blue Monster, and, most recently, Beowulf and the Bard by Vidas Barzdukas and Christopher R. Barlett.
